●Details of Your Internship / インターンシップの内容

【Position / ポジション】 Digital Communication Intern

【Task during internship / インターンシップの内容】
-Analyze social media audience and define target groups for various campaign themes.
-Raising awareness of the domestic issues and projects in Thailand.
-Revising existing communication materials to identify useful resources for the
digital fundraising campaign.
-Revising and upgrading UNDP Thailand website to enhance the accessibility and
visibility of activities.
-Developing infographics / documents for the projects and activities of UNDP Thailand
in English and Thai.
-Ensuring update of English section of UNDP Thailand website and social media
platform.
-Supporting the organization and arrangement of seminar, workshop, and conference.

●What You Learned at Internship / インターンシップでの学び
One of the most challenging issues was that there was neither communication officer nor handover note. In other words, I had to collect all the information and data from scratch.
Right after my arrival, my role changed from an intern to an acting communication officer to manage all the communication work in UNDP Thailand. As there were no guidelines or archives of documents exist in the office, my first mission was to collect all the project documents and previous communication works. However, it was not an easy task since I was the intern student from Japan, and more than 80% of staffs were Thai in my office. In addition, my colleagues and supervisor always worked busily which limited the communication.
Therefore, I decided to fit in an organizational culture by socializing. In terms of socialization, I tried to communicate in Thai, and had a small chat during work and break time. Those action resulted in creating a closer relationship where we could ask any matter at any time. By having such relationship, this allowed me to liaise with colleagues to collect data, information and project documents more effectively. As a result, I was able to accomplish my mission as the acting communication officer by creating communication materials (consistent update of social media and homepage, and production of project summary and infographic) as well as supporting events, seminar, and workshop held by UNDP Thailand.
 

●The linkage between what you have learned at UNFA course and your internship experience / 国連・外交コース授業での学びとインターンシップ
In my internship in UNDP Thailand, there were many opportunities where I was able to utilize the knowledge gained in UNFAcourses. One of remarkable benefits from UNFA is that we were able to be familiar with a flow on project implementation by international organization.
Prior to the internship, I learnt key elements on project implementation in the course of “Global Sustainable Development” conducted by Prof. Shun-chi Murata. In this course, students were asked to analyze the situation of specific area and countries. Through the course, I was able to understand the project more efficiently than I used to.
During my internship, I had a lot of time reading project documents produced by UNDP and other agencies because my role was to work as an acting communication officer. Thanks to UNFA courses, I was able to understand the projects easily and effectively. As a result, there was no difficulty in following the meeting, workshop and seminar as well as summarizing the project overview to publish communication materials.

●Future Career Plan / 将来の目標、キャリアプラン
For now, my future goal is to accelerate youth empowerment (eg. entrepreneurship) in countries where youth have limited opportunity to raise their innovative and creative ideas to improve society.
In order to achieve my goal, I will gain couple years of work experience in either public or private sector. After that, I would like to apply JPO (Junior Professional Officer) examination to start my international career in UNDP.
