こんにちは。
この4月より、関西学院大学国際学部で再び教壇に立てることを、大変光栄に思っております。上ヶ原キャンパスでは以前にも英語講師として勤務しており、関西圏の複数の大学での教育経験を経て、再びこの場所に戻ってこられたことに、深いご縁を感じています。

これまで、社会言語学、非言語コミュニケーション、英語ライティング、英語コミュニケーションなど、幅広い科目を担当してきましたが、現在は国際学部で英語のリーディング科目を受け持っています。授業では、学生が言語の背景にある文化や社会的な視点にも目を向けられるよう、実践的かつ多角的なアプローチを心がけています。
学部・大学院時代には、言語学、応用言語学、社会言語学、多文化理解を専門的に学び、ニュージーランド・ビクトリア大学にて応用言語学の修士号（M.A.）、大阪大学にて言語文化学の博士号（Ph.D）を取得しました。研究や海外での生活、多様な文化との交流、そして語学教育の実践を通じて、真の「国際人」とは、語学力だけでなく、異文化に関心を持ち、自ら積極的に他者と関わる姿勢を備えている人であると感じています。そのような考えのもと、私の授業では語学的な知識だけでなく、他者の意見に耳を傾け、自身の考えを深め、それを英語で発信する力を育むことを大切にしています。学生一人ひとりが協働的な学習環境の中で主体的に学べるよう、授業設計にも工夫を凝らしています。

国際学部には、海外留学を目指す学生も多く在籍しています。学生時代は、自分自身を見つめ直し、未知の価値観に触れることができる、とても貴重な時期です。この時期の異文化体験は、アイデンティティの形成や国際的な視野を育てるうえで、大きな意義を持つと考えられます。現在は、短期留学やオンライン異文化交流プログラム、学生のニーズ分析などを通じて、こうした体験をより豊かなものにするための研究にも取り組んでいます。

「教育には人生を変える力がある」 これは、私自身が学びのなかで強く感じてきた信念です。そして今、その力を学生の皆さんに届ける立場にいられることに、深い喜びと責任を感じています。これからも、英語を学ぶことの楽しさ、そして文化を知ることの面白さを分かち合いながら、学生の皆さんとともに、前向きで実りある楽しい学びの場をつくっていければと願っています。

This April, I’m very happy to return to Kwansei Gakuin University and teach again at the School of International Studies. I used to work here, and after spending several years teaching at other universities in the Kansai area, it feels very special to be back on the Uegahara Campus.

In the past, I have taught many subjects such as sociolinguistics, non-verbal communication, English writing, and English communication. Currently, I teach English reading. In my classes, I try to help students understand not only the language, but also the cultures and social ideas behind it. I believe learning a language is also about learning how people think and live in different parts of the world.

During my university and graduate studies, I focused on linguistics, applied linguistics, sociolinguistics, and multicultural understanding. I completed my master’s degree in Applied Linguistics at Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand, and received my Ph.D. in Language and Culture from Osaka University. Through research, living abroad, meeting people from different cultures, and teaching languages, I have learned that being an international person means more than just speaking a foreign language. It means having curiosity and respect for other cultures, and being able to communicate and connect with different people. In my classes, I want students to not only gain language knowledge, but also listen to others, think deeply, and express their ideas in English. I try to create a classroom where everyone can learn actively and support each other.

Many students in the School of International Studies are interested in studying abroad. I believe that university is a very special time in our life when we can try new things and learn from new experiences. These experiences help shape students’ identity and future goals. That’s why I am also doing research on programs for short-term study abroad and online intercultural exchange, based on students’ needs and experiences.

I strongly believe that education has the power to change lives ― this is something I’ve learned through my own experience. I feel very lucky to be in a position where I can share that power with my students. I hope to continue building an exciting and meaningful learning environment with all of you, where we can enjoy learning English and exploring cultures together.
