Although I am new to Kwansei Gakuin University, having joined the School of International Studies in April 2025, I am excited to begin this new chapter and to support students in developing the English communication skills they need to thrive in diverse, global contexts. Originally from Oxford, England, I hold a degree in History from Swansea University in Wales and a Master’s in TESOL from the University of Sunderland in the UK.

My teaching is grounded in a commitment to helping students build both fluency and confidence, with a focus on practical, real-world communication. I aim to create a classroom environment that fosters curiosity where students can express themselves clearly and explore the cultural dimensions of language. It is deeply rewarding to support students as they prepare to use English not only in academic settings, but also in their future professional and international lives.
My research interests lie at the intersection of language and culture. Specifically, I explore how cultural factors influence the appropriate and effective use of English across different contexts. By highlighting the importance of cultural awareness in communication, my goal is to help students develop a more nuanced understanding of how English operates in global settings—an increasingly essential skill in our interconnected world.
I am delighted to be part of the dynamic and globally engaged community at Kwansei Gakuin University, and I’m tremendously excited about working closely with both students and colleagues in the School of International Studies.

私は2025年4月に関西学院大学国際学部に着任したばかりですが、この新しい章を始め、学生が多様でグローバルな文脈で繁栄するために必要な英語コミュニケーションスキルを育むことを楽しみにしております。私はイギリスのオックスフォード出身で、ウェールズのスウォンジー大学で歴史の学位を取得し、イギリスのサンダーランド大学でTESOLの修士号を取得いたしました。

私の教育方針は、流暢さと自信を築くことを支援することに基づいており、実践的で現実世界のコミュニケーションに焦点を当てています。私は学生が明確に自己表現し、言語の文化的側面を探求できる好奇心を促進する教室環境を作ることを目指しております。学生が英語を学術的な場だけでなく、将来の職業や国際的な生活で使用する準備をするのを支援することは非常にやりがいがあります。
私の研究の関心は、言語と文化の交差点にあります。具体的には、文化的要因が異なる文脈で英語を適切かつ効果的に使用する方法にどのように影響するかを探求しています。コミュニケーションにおける文化の認識の重要性を強調することで、私の目標は学生がグローバルな設定で英語がどのように機能するかについてより微妙な理解を深めるのを助けることです。これは私たちの相互に関連した世界でますます重要なスキルです。
