第1回目の講演タイトルは"To Be or Not to Be Deaf : That is the Question" （ろう者であるべきか、そうでないべきか）、講師はろう文化、ろう者のアイデンティティ、通訳などの分野で著名なThomas K.Holcomb教授（オーロニ・カレッジ）です。
「ろう文化とろう者のアイデンティティー」をテーマに、ろう児/ろう者が自分らしく生きていくためには？についての貴重なメッセージとなっています。

Thomas K.Holcomb 教授
オーロニ・カレッジ（アメリカカリフォルニア州）教授。ろう者・聴者の学生を対象に、ろう文化・ろう教育・通訳に関するコースを担当。以前はサンノゼ州立大学（アメリカカリフォルニア州）、国立ろう工科大学（アメリカニューヨーク州）で教鞭を取る。 ギャロデット大学心理学学士課程修了、ロチェスター工科大学 Career and Human Resources Development 修士課程修了、ロチェスター大学 Curriculum and Instruction 博士課程修了。 主な著書に、Deaf Eyes on Interpreting (2018), Reading Between the Signs: Intercultural Communiction for Sign Language Interpreter (2014), Introduction to American Deaf Culture (2013), Deaf Culture, Our Way: Anecdotes from the Deaf Community (2011)など。また、マルチメディアのオンラインカリキュラム制作にも携わり、Strategies for Effective Deaf/Hearing Interactions (2021) や、See What I Mean: Diffeences between Deaf and Hearing Culture (2009) などがある。
