Professor Sachiko Yoshimura Delivered a Research Presentation at an International Symposium (Colloque) on the Reception of International Human Rights Law in France and Japan

On March 10, 2025, an international symposium (Colloque) titled “La réception du droit international des droits de l’Homme dans les ordres juridiques français et japonais” (“The Reception of International Human Rights Law in the French and Japanese Legal Systems”), co-organized by Professor Takeshi of School of Law and Politics and Professor Thierry Rambaud of Université Paris Cité, was held at Université Paris Cité in Malakoff, France. Professor Sachiko Yoshimura of the School of International Studies participated in the symposium to deliver a research presentation.

The symposium opened with welcoming remarks by Professor Alain Laquièze, Dean of the Faculty of Law at Université Paris Cité, followed by presentations from experts and practitioners.  Professor Yoshimura presented “Léon Jouhaux’s Contribution to the Internationalization of Labor Standards and Their Reception in Japan – A Business and Human Rights Perspective” (≪La contribution de Léon Jouhaux à l’internationalisation des normes du travail et sa réception au Japon : une analyse du point de vue des entreprises et des droits de l’homme≫) as a part of the findings from the 2025 Kwansei Gakuin University Joint Research Project , “Research on the Reception and Implementation of International Human Rights in Japan” (Chair: Sachiko Yoshimura; Co-researchers: Takeshi Inoue; Yasue Mochizuki, Professor, School of Law and Politics; Misako Takizawa, Professor, College of Arts and Sciences, J.F. Oberlin University).
Other presentations analyzed how international human rights law is integrated and implemented across different national legal systems, clarifying similarities and institutional differences between France and Japan. Discussions also highlighted the importance of courts, governmental bodies, and academic scholarship in ensuring the effectiveness of international human rights norms.

Approximately 20 researchers, practitioners, and students participated in the symposium, engaging in presentations and active discussions. The event provided an important opportunity to deepen comparative legal studies between Japan and France and to further strengthen international academic collaboration.

A report of the symposium is also available on the website of the Maurice Hauriou Institute (Public Law Research Center) at Université Paris Cité:
