Associate Prof. Atsushi Takahashi gives presentation on Peter Lombard’s Sentences at The Chinese University of Hong Kong.
Assoc. Prof. Atsushi Takahashi (Faculty of Letters) presented a paper titled “The Divine Causality of Contingent Events in Peter Lombard’s Sentences, Book II, Distinction 18” at the international conference Divine and Human in Ancient and Medieval Philosophy, held at The Chinese University of Hong Kong in China, from 28 to 30 November 2025. The Divine and Human in Ancient and Medieval Philosophy conference brings together specialists in ancient and medieval Western philosophy from China and Japan for annual research presentations and discussion. This year marked the third meeting of the conference, which gathered more than twenty scholars primarily from the two countries. By convening researchers in both ancient and medieval philosophy, the conference provided a forum for multifaceted perspectives on central issues in metaphysics and theology. In his presentation, Assoc. Prof. Takahashi examined modal notions in the twelfth-century theologian Peter Lombard’s Sentences. The next meeting of the conference is scheduled to take place in Shandong, China, in 2026, and Prof. Takahashi is also expected to participate.
