Robert Andrews, IEFL of the School of International Studies presented on Using AI Image Generators for Descriptive Writing

Robert Andrews, IEFL of the School of International Studies presented at the 30th Nepal English Language Teaching Association (NELTA) International Conference, held in Kathmandu, Nepal, from January 30 to January 31, 2026. The presentation, delivered on January 30, was titled “Using AI Image Generators to Improve Students' Descriptive Writing.”

The 30th Nepal English Language Teaching Association International Conference is an annual international gathering dedicated to the advancement of English language teaching and the sharing of research and pedagogical practices. It provides a forum for educators and researchers from Nepal and abroad to exchange ideas on innovative methodologies and current challenges in English language education. The conference brought together over 300 researchers and practitioners from more than 10 countries for presentations and academic discussions.

The presentation introduced the use of the AI image-generation tool Adobe Firefly in teaching descriptive writing. Students were asked to produce detailed written descriptions of stock images, using in English, which were then used to generate images. By comparing the stock images with the generated visuals, students were able to identify gaps in clarity, specificity, and vocabulary choice. The generated images thus functioned as an immediate and engaging feedback mechanism, encouraging revision and deeper reflection on language use.

Approximately 30 participants attended the session, and the response was highly positive.
