Simon Timms (School of International Studies, IEFL) delivered a presentation on corrective feedback in ESL classrooms at the 45th Thailand TESOL International Conference, held from January 30 to January 31, 2026, in Bangkok, Thailand. His presentation examined the relationship between corrective feedback, learner uptake, and learning, with particular attention to how cultural and affective factors shape the effectiveness of feedback in East and Southeast Asian educational contexts. Drawing on earlier empirical research alongside more recent theoretical developments, the talk highlighted the limitations of viewing corrective feedback strategies hierarchically and emphasized the importance of context, learner engagement, and timing.
The Thailand TESOL International Conference is an annual event that brings together English language educators, researchers, and practitioners from across the region and beyond to share research findings and pedagogical insights. The 2026 conference attracted participants from more than ten countries and featured a diverse range of presentations addressing contemporary issues in ESL education, including classroom interaction, feedback practices, and the use of educational technology in language teaching.
