Research on student internationalization in Japan by SAPL, Andrew NOWLAN, Language Center is published in Japan Forum

On January 30th, 2026, the results of research by [SAPL, Andrew NOWLAN, Language Center on student internationlization in Japan were published in Japan Forum, by Taylor & Francis. Nowlan's research involved a small group of Japanese university students to understand how they experience the move from university to work in an era of “global” higher education reform. It found a clear gap between government policies promoting global careers and students’ real experiences, which are still shaped by rigid hiring systems and strong cultural expectations. The research contributes to higher education in Japan by offering practical insights for policymakers, suggesting that universities need better global career guidance and more flexible, entrepreneurial pathways to truly support internationally minded students.
