Master's Student Seunghyun Kim and Professor Daisuke Chugo Receive Best Paper Award at HSI 2026

Seunghyun Kim, a first-year master's student, Professor Daisuke Chugo of the School of Engineering, and their co-authors received the Best Paper Award at the award ceremony of the 18th IEEE International Conference on Human System Interaction (HSI 2026), held in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, from July 15 to 17, 2026. The award is presented to the authors of the most outstanding paper among the 60 papers presented at HSI 2026, based on a comprehensive evaluation of academic originality, practical significance, and potential for real-world applications. The award-winning paper is titled "BLE Beacon-Based Proximity Monitoring for Robust Robot Guidance in Dynamic Environments." The co-authors of the paper are Seunghyun Kim (Kwansei Gakuin University), Daisuke Chugo (Kwansei Gakuin University), Satoshi Muramatsu (Tokai University), Sho Yokota (Toyo University), Jinhua She (Tokyo University of Technology), and Hiroshi Hashimoto (Advanced Institute of Industrial Technology). The paper proposes a robot guidance technology that enables robots to safely and reliably guide users through crowded environments without losing track of them by utilizing Bluetooth signals emitted from everyday devices such as smartphones and wireless earphones.
