Professor Namie Nagamatsu of the School of Sociology presented her research on “Employer Engagement and Workplace Transformation: Evidence from Japan’s Job Training Program” at the 2026 East Asian Social Policy (EASP) Annual Conference, held in Hong Kong from July 17 to 18, 2026.
The conference was organized by the East Asian Social Policy Research Network (EASP) and The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong under the theme “Social Policy in Asia in an Era of Multiple Disruptions.” More than 200 researchers and policy scholars from 121 institutions across 15 countries and regions participated.
Professor Nagamatsu’s presentation examined how the experience of employing people facing barriers to work can lead to changes in human resource management and workplace practices. Using the perspective of Inclusive Human Resource Management (Inclusive HRM), she focused on changes in job design, placement, training, and workplace communication.
The conference provided a valuable opportunity to exchange ideas with researchers from different countries and to further develop her research on employer engagement and labour market inclusion.
