The book "Port Cities in the Asian Ocean World; Principles of Multi-ethnic Coexistance, Shophouse & Courtyard House" (edited by Shuji Funo and Zhao Chong; Kyoto University Press; June 2026), for which Prof. Yamane served as a contributor, has been published.
This book focuses on port cities that served as hubs in the maritime world that drove world history. It analyzes and categorizes the diverse forms of these cities and their architecture along the axes of time and space, aiming to present a comprehensive picture of the dynamism of history.
Prof. Yamane authored the sections on George Town, Malaysia; Yangon, Myanmar; Kozhikode, India; and Lamu and Mombasa, Kenya, and, based on his own research, provides a detailed account of the urban structure, architecture, and residential characteristics of each of these port cities.
