Jon Watkins, Language Center SIL, made a presentation entitled "The benefits and drawbacks of using synchronous computer-mediated communication tools in language learning tasks" at the 22nd Annual CamTESOL Conference in Phnom Penh, Cambodia from February 6 to February 8 of 2026. The CamTESOL Conference is held annually to give researchers and educators from all over the world an opportunity to connect with each other and share their research. CamTESOL regularly hosts over 1,800 delegates from over 40 different countries to showcase over 500 presentaion sessions. For this presentation, I worked with Professor Scott Aubrey of Chinese University of Hong Kong to share our research on a comparative analysis of engagement and motivation depending on the mode of learner communication. The presentation went quite well, with an audience of roughly 15 people, and was followed by a lively question-and-answer session.
