Professor Akira Kurashima of the School of Sociology delivered a keynote lecture entitled “Tai Chi as a Taoist Practice, a Myth to be Confronted: A Phenomenological Perspective on the Learning of the Practice” on first day of the international conference JORRESCAM (Journées de réflexion et de recherches sur les sports de combat et les arts martiaux) held in Arradon, France, from June 4 to 6, 2025. JORRESCAM is a francophone-based network for the exchange of researchers in martial arts and combat sports. Their 17th conference, themed “Values, Combat Sports, and Martial Arts: Myths and Legends Put to the Test of Science,” was hosted by the Université Catholique de l'Ouest in Bretagne. Researchers in various fields including sociology, history, anthropology, philosophy, and sports science gathered not only from across France but also from Japan and Canada to engage in active discussions.
