The International Society for Third Sector Research (ISTR) aims to promote excellence in research and learning related to the “third sector/civil society,” effectively disseminate and utilize its knowledge, ideas, and research findings, and foster the formation of a global community, the building of inclusive networks, and mutual learning among third-sector researchers, practitioners, and policymakers across all fields worldwide, as well as support research-based education on the “third sector/civil society.” This conference brought together more than 700 researchers and practitioners from over 80 countries to present and discuss their work.

One of the unique benefits of an international conference was that, following the presentation of research reports, new networks were formed and plans for future international comparative research were initiated.
