Shannon Miyamoto, IEFL at Kwansei Gakuin University, presented on using film and television to promote intercultural communicative competence (ICC) at The 49th Annual TESOL Spain Convention 2026, which was held from 3/13/2026 to 3/15/2026 at the Universidad Pablo de Olivade, in Sevilla, Spain. Being able to interact and communicate with people from linguistically and culturally different backgrounds is paramount for EFL learners in the globalizing society of the 21st century, and as such, using digital media to promote these skills was discussed during the presentation. The Annual TESOL Spain Convention is held every year to promote the exchange of ideas, provide practical in-class activities and workshops, and to facilitate the sharing of cutting-edge research and theory in the SLA field. The conference takes place every year in different Spanish cities, and attracts a variety of teachers and researchers, with 36 countries being represented.
