Monthly Living Costs in Japan (in yen)
Students may find that they need more or less, but below is an estimate of what a student should plan for a one-month period. Those planning trips during breaks, regular outings, shopping, or other personal plans should bring more.
The cost of a round-trip airfare to and from Japan or travel expenses for trips within Japan is not included below. Also, depending on where students are staying, transportation costs to and from the university may be required.

Financial Assistance
Through various financial assistance programs, KGU helps students from foreign countries to study in Japan. Some of the major programs are as follows.
Scholarships for International Students
The following four types of KGU scholarships are available for students those who hold a residence status other than “Special Permanent Resident,” “Permanent Resident,” “Spouse or Child of Permanent Resident,” “Spouse or Child of Japanese National” and those who meet the requirements specified by KGU.
For Undergraduate Students
(1) KGU Pre-enrollment Reserved Scholarship for International Students (for first-year students)

(3) School of Policy Studies Scholarship for International Students
Eligible applicants: Those who study at the School of Policy Studies (SPS), hold "student" residence status, or are recognized as international students by the school.
Amount awarded: 50,000 yen for each semester
Scholarship recipients: In principle, this scholarship will be awarded to all applicable international students at the School of Policy Studies.
For Graduate Students
(1) KGU Graduate School Scholarship for International Students
▪️Tentative Selection Pending University Entrance
Eligible applicants: Those who hold "student" residence status or are recognized as international students by the applicable graduate school
Amount awarded: An amount equivalent to 50% of annual tuition fees
* The screening for this scholarship is based on the entrance examination results, etc. Those selected to obtain this scholarship will receive notification of the scholarship award before they enroll at KGU. With the awarding of the scholarship already determined in advance of enrollment, prospective scholarship awardees can enroll at KGU without any financial concerns.
▪️Selection after University Entrance
Eligible applicants: Those who hold "student" residence status or are recognized as international students by the applicable graduate school
Amount awarded: An amount equivalent to 35% of annual tuition fees
(2) KGU Tuition Reduction for Privacy Funded International Students
Under this program, KGU offers 30% reduction of tuition fees (as of this year) for privately-funded international students studying at a regular (degree-seeking) graduate course and hold "student" residence status.
* The reduction does not apply to those who have attended KGU beyond the minimum years required to complete a course of study.
* The amount of tuition reduction for the next academic year and beyond has not been decided.
* Undergraduate students are not eligible.
Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho: MEXT) Scholarship
Kwansei Gakuin University accepts MEXT scholarship students through the "Embassy Recommendation" and "University Recommendation" programs.
