MEXT Scholarship Program

Kwansei Gakuin University (KGU) accepts MEXT scholarship students through the "Embassy Recommendation" and "University Recommendation" programs.
Please note that our university only accepts research students (graduate level).

Embassy Recommendation 

Recruitment and selection for this program are conducted at the Japanese Embassy (or Consulate General) in the applicant's home country. For the recruitment and selection schedule, application methods, and other details, please contact the Japanese Embassy (or Consulate General) in your home country.

For Applicants Seeking a "Letter of Acceptance"

After passing the 1st screening at the Japanese Embassy (or Consulate General) in your home country, please apply following the steps below. Applications for Embassy Recommendation are accepted at the Center for International Education and Cooperation (CIEC) and there is no need to contact your desired supervisor directly.

1. Required Documents
  1. Copy of Certificate of Passing the First Selection (PDF)
  2. Copy of Complete set of application documents for the Japanese Embassy (PDF)

2. Application Method

Please send the required documents via email as follows:

Subject: Request for MEXT Scholarship (Embassy Recommendation)
Body: Please include the following information: ・Desired Graduate School ・Name of desired supervisor ・Japanese language proficiency score (Yes, No/ Test name/ Score/ Date obtained) ・English language proficiency test scores (Yes, No/ Test name/ Score/ Date obtained) ・If admission as a regular student is not possible, do you wish to study as a non-degree student? (Yes, No)

Important Note
  • Before sending a request for letter of acceptance, please be sure to check the language of instruction for each graduate school and identify your prospective supervisor.
  • Our office is closed during mid-August. During this period, emails cannot be checked and acceptance reviews cannot be conducted. To ensure a smooth application process, we recommend submitting your application by early August.

4. Important Notes

To undergo the admission screening, you must take the entrance examination for each graduate school.
Please note that payment of the examination fee is required at the time of application. The fee will be reimbursed if you pass the examination and enroll at KGU.

 

University Recommendation

This program is for international students from KGU’s partner universities. Recruitment and selection are conducted by KGU. Applicants wishing to apply for this program must take the following entrance examination designated for international students from KGU’s partner universities. From among those who pass this entrance examination, we will select candidates to be recommended for the MEXT Scholarship through university recommendation. Please refer to the following PDF to confirm that you are eligible to apply.

  1.   Nominees must have foreign citizenship

 Important Notes This recruitment category is not eligible for the University Recommendation MEXT Scholarship.

 This recruitment category is only eligible for the University-Recommended MEXT Scholarship for applicants wishing to enroll in September. Applicants wishing to enroll in April are not eligible for the University-Recommended MEXT Scholarship.
