国際学部の授業紹介②：観光と地域 / SIS Course Introduction (2)：Tourism Geography

国際学部で提供している沢山の授業の中から、学部ならではと思われるものを紹介します。
第二回目は、大石太郎教授による「観光と地域」です。教室では外国人の日本旅行の特徴などを学ぶ一方で、授業の一環としてフィールドワークに行くことができるという点が人気の理由のひとつです。今年は、西宮の酒蔵見学を行い、西宮における、伝統的なお酒造りと観光の関係を学びました。

Among the various courses offered by the School of International Studies (SIS), we introduce a class that is unique to the School.
The second one of the series is “Tourism and Region," by Professor Taro Oishi.
One of the reasons why this course is so popular is that students can experience to go on fieldwork as part of their coursework, while they learn about the characteristics of foreigners' travel to Japan in the classroom. They visited a sake brewery in Nishinomiya this year and learned about the relationship between traditional sake brewing and tourism in Nishinomiya.

この授業では、担当教員の専門分野である地理学の研究成果を中心に、アカデミックな視点から観光について学んでいます。教室で観光に関する基本的な概念や制度などを学ぶ一方で、学外に飛び出して観光の現場を見学する機会ももうけています。これまでの授業では、奈良のまちかど博物館の取り組み、堺の歴史や伝統産業を活かした観光の現状、多くの外国人観光客が訪れた大阪市内のにぎわいと変化する新今宮界隈などを見学しました。2022年度は、大学のある西宮の酒造りと酒蔵ツーリズムをテーマに酒ミュージアムを訪れ、観光客を受け入れるための工夫や課題を考えました。このように、観光を具体的に理解することを心がけています。

In this class, students learn about tourism from an academic perspective, focusing on the results of research in geography, my area of expertise. While learning basic concepts and systems of tourism in the classroom session, students also have opportunities to go outside the campus to visit actual tourism sites. For example, in the past, students have visited the Machikado Museum in Nara, the current situation of tourism in Sakai utilizing its history and traditional industries, and Osaka City where many foreign tourists have visited, including the lively and changing Shin-Imamiya area. In 2022, we visited a sake museum, setting a theme on sake brewing and sake brewery tourism in Nishinomiya, where our university is located, and examined innovations and challenges for accommodating tourists. This is how I try to give students a concrete understanding of tourism.
