The School of Human Welfare Studies aims to prepare individuals who contribute to improving the quality of human life and society by providing them with solutions to problems related to mankind, society, and their transactions. To this end, the School of Human Welfare Studies is strongly committed to becoming the “center of practical science” through its rigorous research and academic programs.
The academic programs at the School of Human Welfare Studies aim to educate professionals and citizens who will contribute to society and act upon the School’s philosophy, which emphasizes: Compassion – nurturing generous understanding of others; Comprehensiveness – fostering flexible and holistic views; and Competence – developing advanced problem-solving skills to address various social welfare and health issues.
The School’s 3 departments include the Department of Social Work, Department of Social Organization Development, and Department of Holistic Human Sciences. Each department offers unique research and academic programs related to their respective areas of study. In addition, there are courses shared by all three departments in order to foster the School’s solidarity.

Department of Social Work
The Department of Social Work prepares graduates to contribute to domestic and international societies with a "social work mind." The curriculum emphasizes learning based on theory and practice, and ensures the development of useful knowledge and skills by examining wide-ranging issues in the field such as support systems for children, older adults, and persons with disabilities.
Department of Social Organization Development
The Department of Social Organization Development exists to fulfill a need for highly motivated, creative, and trained social entrepreneurs who can contribute locally and globally to make a better society. The curriculum draws on effective knowledge and proficiency in global standards, and fosters learning relevant for today’s world in order to produce not only those starting a new business but also those who can plan, implement, and evaluate for effective and sustainable projects within existing organizations, such as private corporations, government offices, international institutions, and social welfare agencies.
Department of Holistic Human Sciences
The Department of Holistic Human Sciences aims to promote profound understandings of mankind in both mind and body. The curriculum is based on two fields of study: thanatology and spirituality; and sports sciences and physical performance. The Department of Holistic Human Sciences prepares individuals as instructors/ benefactors in sports; and promoting skilled expertise in working with persons who are grieving, and those who are suffering physically or mentally.
